Report: Cook IVC Filter Lawsuit MDL Centralization Hearing

The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, earlier this week, considered the application for all Cook Celect and Gunther Tulip IVC filter lawsuits filed nationwide in U.S. District Courts. The application was brought by the plaintiffs and they requested that the litigation be centralized before one judge for coordinated pretrial proceedings, as part of an MDL, or Multidistrict Litigation.

Cook Medical 27 IVC Filter Lawsuits

Currently, Cook Medical faced at least 27 different IVC filter lawsuits pending in 11 different districts. Plaintiffs have requested that the litigation be transferred to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana as part of the MDL.

Cook Celect, Gunther Tulip IVC Filters Lawsuit Update

There are at least 27 Cook Celect IVC filter or Cook Gunther Tulip IVC filter lawsuits filed nationally in different U.S. District Courts. The plaintiffs have similar allegations that the medical devices were defectively designed and caused patients to be injured after receiving the filters.

What is the Cook Celect?

Cook Medical manufactures the Celect Vena Cava Filter. It was approved in 2008 under the FDA 510(k) approval process. This process is a short cut to getting approval for medical devices.

New York Xarelto Uncontrollable Bleeding Lawsuit

A Texas woman is the latest to sue Bayer and Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical companies, claiming that the anticoagulant Xarelto has inadequate warnings about the bleeding risk associated with the drug. Jeanne Jeffcoat filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, she claimed that Xarelto caused life-threatening bleeding event that left her permanently injured.

Androgel Testosterone Injury Federal Consolidation

Recently a consolidation motion was filed for all federal Androgel lawsuits to become part of an MDL, or multidistrict litigation.

Hot on the heels of that motion, a second motion has been filed with the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) requesting that all testostereone therapy lawsuits be centralized before one judge as a single coordinated proceeding.

As a Texas Medical Doctor and a Dallas Dangerous Drug attorney, I am concerned by the onslaught of tv advertisements that specifically target older men. The ads ask the questions with a concerned male voice over, “Have you noticed a recent deterioration of your ability to play sports?” “Do you have a decrease in sex drive?” “Do you have a lack of energy?”

If so, the ads warn, you should “talk to your doctor about whether you have low testosterone” — “Low T,” is the new buzz word.

Bayer has Settled $1.6 Billion Yaz and Yasmin Blood Clot Lawsuits

According to Bayer, the pharmaceutical giant has paid out more than $1.6 billion in settlements over Yasmin and Yaz blood clot embolism injuries. The German drug manufacturer is exposed to thousands of product liability drug claims that allege that women suffered severe blood clots due to dangerous side effects of the birth control pills. Bayer has been settling these injury cases over the past 2 years.
