DePuy Pinnacle metal on metal hip Texas trial update. A federal jury in Dallas recently ordered Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and its DePuy Orthopaedics subsidiary unit to pay more than $1 billion to six plaintiffs who claimed that they were injured by their line of Pinnacle metal on metal hip implants.

The jurors found that the Pinnacle hip implants were defectively designed and that the companies failed to warn patients about the risks of serious complications including metallosis (metal poisoning) and the early failure of these devices.

A St. Louis jury yesterday announced a $70 million talcum powder ovarian cancer verdict, in the third talcum powder ovarian cancer case to go to trial.

Deborah Giannecchini, 62, used Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) baby powder for feminine hygiene for more than four decades until her diagnosis with ovarian cancer three years ago.

Giannecchini has an 80 percent chance of dying in the next two years, and has undergone surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

J&J and Imerys Hammered

A J&J unit was ordered to pay $65 million in punitive damages and 90 percent of about $2.5 million for medical costs and pain and suffering.

Co-defendant Imerys Talc America, the supplier of the talc, was hit with $2.5 million in punitive damages.

Juror: “J&J Didn’t Care”

As reported in Bloomberg News, the company should have provided a warning label on the product to let consumers decide whether to use talc, one juror Billie Ray, 76, of St. Louis, said after the trial. “It seemed like Johnson & Johnson didn’t pay attention,” she said. “It seemed like they didn’t care.”

Motorcycle accidentsWhenever you’re involved in an accident in which one of the driver was driving a motorcycle, the risk of major injuries significantly increase. There might also be some complicated legal issues involved that require an experienced attorney.

One recent incident that illustrates these points involves a married father of four children who was killed on his way to work. Deathly car accidentA man with a history of drunk driving is facing four counts of criminally negligent homicide and a civil lawsuit after causing an accident that led to four deaths.

Benjamin Ledwell was driving a 2011 Ford F-250 on May 19, 2015 when he crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander head on. The Chevrolet was consumed by flames immediately after the wreck. Four occupants of the Chevrolet died.

Attorney for the family quickly filed a lawsuit against Ledwell for his negligence and allegedly driving a vehicle under the influence.
