Gallbladder disease is a serious Yaz side effect reported by women using this fourth-generation contraceptive. Women are twice as likely as men to develop gallstones.

The hormones in birth control pills can increase cholesterol levels in bile and decrease gallbladder movement, which can lead to gallstones which can cause serious problems if they become trapped in the bile ducts.
