Do You Have a Texas Yaz Birth Control Claim?

YAZ is the Bayer Health Care brand name for the combination of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol.

Each monthly prescription contains 24 active pills and 4 inactive pills. YAZ was widely prescribed for regulating menstrual periods, minimizing premenstrual syndrome (PMS), treating premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), preventing pregnancy, decreasing irritability and moodiness, and curing mild to moderate acne.

Very little information was available to the public regarding serious side effects until recently and YAZ quickly became the most prescribed oral contraceptive in the United States.

YAZ is the only birth control pill approved to treat PMDD. YAZ counteracts the estrogen-induced sodium and water retention, thus decreasing bloating and breast tenderness. It has also been found that during the week before menses, estrogen affects serotonin levels which in turn influence mood. YAZ helps to regulate these serotonin levels and improves mood.

Ethinyl estradiol is a form of synthetic estrogen used in most oral contraceptives. The major risks, appear to be related to drospirenone. Drospirenone is a synthetic progestin, Drospirenone is unique to YAZ and its predecessor, Yasmin (generic Ocella) and is the component that causes the most risk and there is 3mg of Drospirenone in each prescribed dose of YAZ.

The serious and potentially life-threatening side effects of elevated potassium include: heart attack, stroke, blood clots, gallbladder issues, kidney damage, abnormal heart rhythms, and sudden death.
