Amusement Park Operators Settle Wrongful Death Suit

The family of a Wisconsin teenager killed on a 2007 amusement park ride will be paid $1 million in the settlement of their lawsuit against the operators.

The girl aged 16, died July 14, 2007, in a fall from a giant swing ride at Lifest 2007 when her safety harness was improperly secured.

The parents, named Life Promotions and Air Glory Inc. in a wrongful-death suit and reached an agreement, according to their attorney.

The case settled with a payment for the limit of the insurance company covering the Air Glory company, according to court records, the policy had a limit of $1 million.

The girl fell 50 feet from a free-fall ride called the “Giant Swing” on the Lifest grounds at the Sunnyview Expo Center in Oshkosh. A subsequent investigation determined the fastener attaching the girl to the harness was not properly locked into place. A safety rope also was not properly attached to the harness.

The operator, Air Glory, was banned by the state from operating its rides in Wisconsin for one year as a result of the death.
