WEN hair loss lawsuit

WEN lawsuitA class action lawsuit launched against WEN Cleansing Conditioner alleges that the popular hair product causes hair loss.

WEN Cleansing Conditioner is designed to be an all-in-one hair cleaner that replaces detanglers, conditioners and shampoo. It was developed by celebrity hair stylist Chaz Dean and sold and marketed by Guthy-Renker in the United States.

The first lawsuit was filed by Amy Friedman in California. Friedman had previously used organic shampoos and conditioners without any hair loss issues. However, within two weeks of using WEN Cleansing Conditioner she began losing substantial and abnormal amounts of hair. She stopped using the product but her hair loss continued for three more weeks. Ultimately, Friedman lost nearly a third of her hair.

Judi Miller, another WEN Cleansing Conditioner victim, joined Friedman’s lawsuit shortly after. Miller began using the product in June 2011. She purchased WEN Cleansing Conditioner by telephone after viewing Guthy-Renker’s advertisements regarding the safe, innovative and gentle qualities of the WEN Cleansing Conditioner. In January 2013, Miller noticed that she was losing abnormal amounts of hair. Not suspecting the WEN Cleansing Conditioner was the culprit, Miller only stopped using the products in June 2014, when she finally realized that she was losing substantial amounts of hair only in the areas in which she applied WEN Cleansing Conditioner, among other places, on the crown of her head.

As a result of the hair loss caused by the WEN Cleansing Conditioners, Miller was forced to expend substantial sums on vitamins, supplements, and doctor visits to treat and attempt to regrow her hair and treat other serious health issues caused by use of the products. Like Friedman, Miller also contacted the FDA concerning her negative experience with WEN haircare products.

Friedman and Miller allege that Guthy-Renker and WEN knew about the hair loss side effects as early as four years ago, yet they failed to warn consumers. Friedman and Miller say that in addition to the 17,000 complaints filed with the company, the company knew or should have known about the hair loss issues caused by WEN Cleansing Conditioner as a result of pre-release formulation and testing.

Both Friedman and Miller say they would not have purchased the product had they known about risk of hair loss.
